📰 News we're reading
• Gov. Newsom signs bills for federal immigration oversight (kcra.com) — A wide-ranging package of immigration-related bills backed by Gov. Newsom includes a measure from Colton's Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes to protect people traveling to and from courthouses from civil arrest. The new laws tighten oversight of detention facilities, restrict certain law-enforcement tools, and aim to strengthen legal and social protections for immigrants across California, including Inland Empire families.
• Newsom Signs Sen. Reyes' Bill on Immigration Arrests (iecn.com) — Colton's own state senator, Eloise Gómez Reyes, authored a new law signed by Gov. Newsom that restricts civil immigration arrests in and around California courthouses. The measure requires federal agents to show a judicial warrant and identify themselves, aiming to ensure victims, witnesses, and families can safely attend court without fearing immigration enforcement.
