Concord Man Struck By Car Sunday Night On Kirker Pass Road in Concord

The pedestrian underwent surgery at John Muir in Walnut Creek.

A 43-year-old Concord man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car Sunday evening in Concord, police said.

Provisional Sgt. Ken Carlson said the man was crossing Kirker Pass Road near Allegro Avenue around 6 p.m. when a 1997 Ford Expedition hit him. Carlson said the 37-year-old Antioch driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Carlson described Kirker Pass Road as a major thoroughfare with three lanes in both directions.

The speed limit is 45 miles per hour in that area, he said.

There is no indication that drugs or alcohol played any role in the collision and Carlson said that based on the preliminary investigation, it’s unlikely criminal charges would be filed.

“It’s just an unfortunate event,” Carlson said.

As of around 10 p.m., Carlson said the man was undergoing surgery at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
