Monday's Fire At Concord Residence Caused $200k In Damages

The cause is still under investigation.

A fire in Concord on Monday that displaced four people caused roughly $200,000 in damage, a fire captain said today.

Capt. George Laing said the cause of Monday’s fire in Concord is still under investigation but the fire is not considered suspicious.

Fire crews responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a report of a fire at 2520 Walters Way, where they found smoke and flames coming from a second-floor apartment, Laing said.

The fire broke out in the attic and spread inside the apartment, but Laing said firefighters had the blaze under control in approximately 10 minutes. The surrounding apartments sustained minor damage, he said.

There were no injuries reported but three adults and one juvenile were displaced as a result of the fire and Laing said the American Red Cross was called to respond to the scene.

The displaced family also received the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District’s first Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency, or SAVE card.

The cards are issued by the department but are funded by the California Fire Foundation. The card provides fire victims with a $100 gift card to buy basic immediate necessitates, Laing said.
