Police ID Homicide Victim As 38-Year-Old Father, Fiancé
The man was gunned down Friday night in downtown Walnut Creek after possibly leaving sports bar, police said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – Police identified a man, father and fiancé shot to death early this morning in Walnut Creek as Courtney Brown, 38.
Brown died at John Muir Medical Center after being shot three times in the back at 1:28 a.m. at Locust and Cypress streets, police said.
Brown, a Bay Area resident, appears to have been visiting Crogan's Sports Bar & Grill at 1387 Locust St. before he was shot between Crogan's and Redux Lounge at 1411 Locust St.

Both businesses were closing and customers were leaving when shots were fired.
No one else was injured, police said. Witness reported seeing the shooting.

Officers searched for the suspect with K-9s but could not find a man described as black, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds and in his 20s.
The suspect was last seen running west on Cypress Street and then south on North California Boulevard, according to police.
Officers are following multiple leads as part of an investigation.
Evidence suggests the shooting was not a random event as police initially thought, Sgt. Mike Sugrue said. Brown leaves behind a daughter.
