Social Security Marks 81 Years; Rep. Honda Sets Town Hall
On the agenda: Plans for a bill to "scrap the cap" to eliminate the limit high earners pay to Social Security.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – Sunday, Aug. 14 marked the 81st anniversary of Social Security. Congressman Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley) released the following statement to commemorate the event.
“Social Security is the single most important source of income for many senior citizens and it is lifting 56 million Americans out of poverty,” Rep. Honda said. “This year, Americans receiving Social Security were denied a cost of living increase, despite rising healthcare costs and other expenses. This is not acceptable and we must do everything we can to ensure that senior citizens have the resources they need and to ensure that social security is there for future generations.”
Honda has fought for strengthening social security and introduced the Strengthening Social Security Act, along with Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-CA), to increase benefits for current beneficiaries while making Social Security stronger for future generations by eliminating the cap on how much of an individual’s earnings can be paid into Social Security and adopting a high cost of living adjustment to better reflect the rising cost of healthcare for seniors.
