Thanksgiving made A Reality For Cupertino Families In Need

Thanksgiving Meal Sharing Program

Cupertino Rotary (www.cupertinorotary.org) together with Safeway Stevens Creek Cupertino made the Thanksgiving Meals Sharing Program a big success and many families happy this holiday season!

Many thanks to all who participated to make the Thanksgiving Meals Sharing Program a big success goes to Cupertino Rotarians, Safeway stores, Cupertino Senior Center, Cupertino Union School District, Fremont Union School District, Live Oak Adult Center, West Valley Community Services, and the Scouts of Troops 479 and 582 .

This year, 63 Cupertino Rotarians with the help of 13 additional members providing administration and logistics, and in many cases with family members and friends, plus 15 Scouts helping carrying meals to the cars, delivered Thanksgiving meals to 111 families.

Each year, we always have some meals that are not deliverable; sometimes families are in temporary housing and are moved before Thanksgiving, some get invited away for the holiday and do not think to notify us, some, especially elderly clients, become ill and are hospitalized, and so on.

“Another nine meals that could not be delivered to families were delivered to West Valley Community Services, and they too were able to go to good homes, so rest assured, all of the meals came to a happy ending,” said George Denise, Rotary Cupertino Chair.

“I always feel bad for the ones we miss, but we should all feel very good about the families we serve. As each meal serves between six and eight people, this year we served the equivalent of between 720 and 960 individual meals, ultimately to 120 families,” he added.
