Burglary Suspect Forces Way Into Danville Home, Police Say
The resident was home during the early morning burglary attempt. Police saw an uptick in residential burglaries in January.

DANVILLE, CA — A burglary suspect forced his way into a Danville home early last Monday morning, police said. The suspect damaged the door during the burglary attempt, which was reported in the 500 block of La Mancha Court at 2:20 a.m. Jan. 29. The homeowner was home at the time and the suspect fled before taking any property, police said.
The next day, suspects broke the rear door window of a home in the Alamo Springs neighborhood and made off with a safe and jewelry. Earlier in the month, a suspect stole power tools from an open garage in the 100 block of Loch Lomond Way, police said.
Police said the town of Danville averages about four to seven residential burglaries a month. Eleven were reported in January, according to police.

A Danville resident, who did not want to be identified, said she called the police at about 3 a.m. Jan. 29 to report someone in her yard. She said residents are scared.
"Danville police are working hard, using a variety of investigative techniques to identify those responsible for the residential burglaries in Town," Danville Police Chief Allan Shields told Patch. "We are also taking proactive measures, in addition to our regular patrol shifts, in an effort to prevent future burglaries."

Shields encourages residents to be vigilant.
"Residents can help protect their homes by setting their alarms, closing and locking all their doors and windows, and consider installing visible security cameras at their home," Shields said.
Property crimes have plagued the Tri-Valley area, including Danville, Alamo and Blackhawk, the last two years. The normally quiet communities also recently saw another spike in car burglaries.
Residents in rural Danville recently shared video surveillance footage of people suspected of burglarizing several parked cars during the early morning hours on Jan. 8. The videos show at least two suspects wearing masks, hats and backpacks walking around the properties just after 12:30 a.m. The victim said cars parked on Camino Tassajara, Johnston, Highland and Finley roads were all targeted.
Police said car burglary is a crime of opportunity and criminals generally look for cars that have valuables left in plain sight. Officials discourage leaving any valuable items visible in cars and ask car owners to lock all doors. In Tri-Valley, laptops have been the most popular item to steal from cars, according to officials. Purses, cash, tools and car registration are also on the list of items reported stolen in 2017.
Police encourage residents to report any suspicious activity in the Town of Danville by calling 925-820-2144 or 911 in an emergency. In unincorporated Danville, residents can call the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office at 925-313-2600 or dispatch for in-progress, non-emergency calls or field deputy follow-up: 925-646-2441.
