Danville Cops Take Selfies, Do the Dab to Get Middle School Kids Talking
The school outreach is a spin-off of the popular "Coffee & Cocoa with the Cops" community meetings designed for adults.
DANVILLE, CA — There’s just something about doing the dab that speaks to preteens. If the dab does not work, there’s always time for a few selfies. Four Danville Police officers recently shared their mad dab skills while making friends with the students at Charlotte Wood Middle School.
Chief Steve Simpkins, Lieutenant Allan Shields and two officers visited the school last week to shoot hoops, snap the perfect selfie, play games and chat with middle school students as part of a new community outreach program. “Recess With The Cops” is the first of its kind in the Tri-Valley. Simpkins came up with the idea after noticing the popularity of the “Coffee & Cocoa with the Cops” program held at local coffee shops.
While seated in the lunchroom under a banner that read “Words Matter” the officers spent time listening to the kids.

“Our goal is to try to bridge that gap and to let the kids know who we really are,” Shields said.
According to Shields, officers plan to visit additional schools in the future.

In nearby Livermore, Officer Craig Giacometti recently stopped by the little boy’s house to celebrate after learning that the boy dreams of becoming a police officer. The birthday boy, who lives on Giacometti’s patrol sector, spent some quality time checking out the police car before posing for photos with the local celebrity.
