Miracle On The Hudson: Capt. 'Sully' Reflects 10 Years Later
The pilot recalled what he thought would be his last moments in an interview with ABC, a decade after the Jan. 15 crash.

DANVILLE, CA — When Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, the pilot who steered a plummeting airplane into the Hudson River and saved everybody onboard, reflects on the events of Jan. 15, 2009, he feels that his life now has a greater sense of purpose, ABC News reported. At a time when the country was in recession and "it seemed like everything was going wrong and no one could do anything right ... along came this group of strangers who rose to the occasion and made sure that everyone survived," said Sullenberger in an interview with the network.
"It gave us hope."
Sullenberger, 67, is now retired and moved from his Danville home on a cul-de-sac in the Vista Tassajara neighborhood in 2018.

But even so, he's met up with the survivors of the "Miracle on the Hudson" for a reunion party in New York each year.
The group has become an emotional support network, he told ABC. Many survivors wrestled with PTSD.
