Davis Man Forced Elementary School Lockdown In Newark
Two staff members were injured in a scuffle with the suspect, who was taken into custody by police.

NEWARK, CA — Children and staff at Lincoln Elementary School in Newark were frightened Wednesday when the school went on lockdown because of an intruder on campus. Two staff members suffered minor injuries in a fight with the suspect, but no children were near the incident and none were harmed.
Police received a call at 11:48 a.m. of a fight taking place on a field at the school, according to Newark Police Capt. Chomnan Loth. Four officers and a sergeant responded. They found that a 20-year-old man who was wearing no shirt or shoes trespassed on the school yard and was confronted by two school employees who demanded that he leave immediately. He immediately became combative and got into a physical fight with the school employees.
Police took the suspect into custody and placed him on a psychiatric hold. He was not carrying any weapons. The suspect is expected to face battery charges when the psychiatric examination is over.

Meanwhile, inside the school, students and staff only knew that an intruder was on campus and they went into their lockdown protocol, designed to protect children in the event of an active shooter. Since they went through the defensive steps, some children assumed there was a shooter and were afraid that they were going to die.
