Heat advisory affecting Northern California Wednesday and Thursday (sacbee.com) — A National Weather Service heat advisory will hit Davis and surrounding Yolo County from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday, with highs near 97–102 and warm nights. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, use air conditioning if possible, avoid strenuous midday activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children, and pets as areas of Major HeatRisk are expected Thursday. 
2. Yolo County educator Melissa Moreno receives the 2026 Capital Region Individual Artist Fellowship (dailydemocrat.com) — Yolo County educator and historian Dr. Melissa Moreno has been honored with a 2026 Capital Region Individual Artist Fellowship for exhibits that spotlight land, labor, and social justice stories, many created with UC Davis and Davis Art Alliance partners. Her projects, including the Mexican Bracero Legacy exhibit, bring forward farmworker and community histories often missing from official records. Davis-area residents can expect her work to continue shaping how local stories are preserved and shared.
3. COURT WATCH: Yolo Judge Questions Competency in Felony Vandalism Case (davisvanguard.org) — A recent Yolo County court hearing focused on a man accused of vandalizing UC Davis buildings and vehicles and throwing rocks at cars near an Orangetheory Fitness in Davis, while a judge questioned his competency to stand trial. The judge ordered him to remain in custody with relatively low bail, citing confusion about the proceedings and communication problems with his attorney. Residents may see this case as part of broader concerns about safety around campus and local businesses.
4. Deconstructing LSD For Therapeutic Discoveries (eurasiareview.com) — UC Davis researchers have redesigned the LSD molecule to create simpler compounds that may retain therapeutic benefits while reducing hallucinogenic and heart-related side effects. Their work, published in a major scientific journal, identified two promising candidates and one that showed antipsychotic-like effects in mice. For Davis residents, it highlights cutting-edge neuroscience and drug discovery happening right at the local university.
