Residents are urged to stay hydrated, use air conditioning if possible, avoid strenuous midday activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children, and pets as areas of Major HeatRisk are expected Thursday.

Yolo County educator Melissa Moreno receives the 2026 Capital Region Individual Artist Fellowship (dailydemocrat.com) — Yolo County educator and historian Dr. Melissa Moreno has been honored with a 2026 Capital Region Individual Artist Fellowship for exhibits that spotlight land, labor, and social justice stories, many created with UC Davis and Davis Art Alliance partners. Her projects, including the Mexican Bracero Legacy exhibit, bring forward farmworker and community histories often missing from official records. Davis-area residents can expect her work to continue shaping how local stories are preserved and shared.

3. COURT WATCH: Yolo Judge Questions Competency in Felony Vandalism Case (davisvanguard.org) — A recent Yolo County court hearing focused on a man accused of vandalizing UC Davis buildings and vehicles and throwing rocks at cars near an Orangetheory Fitness in Davis, while a judge questioned his competency to stand trial.
