1. Friends of Meals in Wheel's 24th Annual Dickens in the Valley Holiday Home Tour set for Dec. 5 (dailydemocrat.com) — Friends of Meals on Wheels is gearing up for its 24th Annual Dickens in the Valley Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 5, with tickets available in Davis at GoodHome Group REMAX Gold on Madson Place. The tour will showcase festively decorated homes in El Macero and Woodland plus the Historic Woodland Train Depot, raising funds to support weekday and communal meals for Yolo County's homebound seniors.
   

2. Yolo County issues Request for Proposals for County Road 32A railroad project (dailydemocrat.com) — Yolo County is moving ahead with design work to replace the problematic County Road 32A at-grade railroad crossing, a route heavily used by drivers and cyclists traveling between Davis and Sacramento. The county has secured major state and federal grants and is now seeking a consultant to design a safer overhead bridge, with proposals due Oct. 22 through its online procurement portal.
   

3. Best colleges in California (kioncentralcoast.com) — UC Davis lands at No. 10 on a new ranking of California's best four-year colleges, highlighting the campus right in your backyard for its strong academics and A+ overall grade. The list, based on Niche's 2027 data, compares tuition, selectivity, and outcomes across top schools statewide, giving Davis families a quick snapshot of how their hometown university stacks up against big names like UCLA, Berkeley, and Stanford.
   

4. Cardinal Tops No. 16 Aggies to Move to 10-1 (gostanford.com) — UC Davis water polo fans saw the No. 16 Aggies fall 15-8 to No. 2 Stanford in a home match in Davis, despite a strong effort in goal from Bernardo Herzer. Stanford pulled away with big scoring runs in the second and third periods, while UC Davis struggled on power plays but rallied somewhat in the fourth as conference play looms.
