A semi-automatic handgun fell from Hardy’s waist when he got out of a car during his arrest, Crane said.
Leonard Clayton, 19, of Fairfield, was arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy Thursday at the NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield where he visited a fellow Bristol Boy gang member who was being treated for stab wounds he suffered several days before during a fight on Dana Drive, Crane said.
Less than an hour after Johnson’s murder, the three suspects showed up at a hospital in Vallejo, Crane said.
Clayton was suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the lower leg that was not considered life-threatening, Crane said.
All three suspects denied any knowledge about the homicide and lied about their whereabouts, and all three were on active probation at the time of their arrests, Crane said.
Clayton’s DNA was found in blood collected at the murder scene, Crane said.
The three suspects have prior law enforcement contacts on a variety of charges, Crane said.
