Second Inmate Dies At Dublin Jail In One Week
Sheriff's detectives and personnel from the county district attorney's office are investigating both cases, per county protocol.
DUBLIN, CA — One week after a Santa Rita Jail inmate was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead, a second inmate has died at the Dublin facility. On Wednesday, a 39-year-old inmate was found unresponsive at the jail, and officials are reporting that efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was found in his maximum security cell by deputies at approximately 4:20 p.m.
"There were no obvious signs of foul play," according to Alameda County Sheriff's Office, which said the inmate had a history of medical concerns. "An autopsy and medical exam were completed and the cause and manner of death have yet to be determined. We are not releasing a name at this time."
On May 29, a 40-year-old man who was scheduled for release from Santa Rita Jail died in custody. The inmate told deputies working in the release area around 1 a.m. that he would prefer to be released at a later time, according to officials. Deputies spoke with him again just before 4 a.m., and he informed them he was not feeling well, officials said. Medical staff said he was conscious, but appeared to be in medical distress, and then he became unresponsive while medical staff and jailhouse deputies were present.
