Prosecutor Clarissa Hamilton reviewed the allegations and filed the misdemeanor charge on April 20.

Although the District Attorney's Office was made aware of another report of inappropriate contact with a student, the allegation was outside of the one-year window of the statute of limitations.

Kaldy surrendered to the sheriff's office at about 9 p.m. on May 16, police said.

Police and prosecutors are asking any witnesses or victims who have come into contact with Kaldy to call (408) 586-2400.

A spokeswoman for the Milpitas Unified School District said the district is aware of the charge against Kaldy and that the teacher he allegedly touched inappropriately is now a former teacher.

School district spokeswoman Shannon Carr said an investigation was initiated after the school district became aware of the alleged inappropriate contact with the former teacher and contacted police.

Kaldy was placed on leave March 19, Carr said.

"These allegations are deeply disturbing and we realize they will raise many questions," she said. "However, we cannot discuss the details as we must protect the fidelity of law enforcement's investigation and legal
proceedings."
