FREMONT, CA — The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the woman who died Feb. 6 after her bicycle collided with an SUV on Mines Road, a rural area just south of Livermore.
The victim was confirmed to be 49-year-old Fremont resident Ellen Mai Le. On Sunday, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition organized a Memorial Bike Ride in Le’s honor, which was a 20-mile loop through the mountains starting and ending at the parking lot of a San Jose CVS.
According to a post from the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, Le was an avid cyclist who volunteered for the SVBC and was active in the Almaden Cycle Touring Club. She biked more than 1500 miles in 2021, and on a three-day Climb Fest known as Goat Ride, she biked a total of 184 miles in a single day. Le also participated in fundraising bike rides, including one which helped deliver pounds of farm-fresh vegetables to those in need.

On Feb. 6, Le was on a 78-mile ride through the hills. While traveling northbound on a curvy part of Mines Road, south of San Antonio Valley Road, she collided with a Land Rover traveling in the opposite direction. They both crossed the solid yellow line, and collided with each other.
The Land Rover driver’s identity has not been released. California Highway Patrol investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
