Niles Canyon Road Closed Due to Storm Debris [SEE PHOTOS]
BREAKING: CalTrans workers are clearing mud, rocks and downed trees from the affected stretch of Highway 84.
FREMONT, CA – Niles Canyon Road (SR84) remains closed today due to storm and flood debris, according to the Fremont Police Department.
California Department of Transportation crews are at the scene, assessing the damage and clearing trees, rocks and mud from the roadway, police said.
Fremont PD Watch Commander Lieutenant Mark Dang ventured into the the Canyon area, driving through several inches of mud, to meet this morning with the Caltrans crews, and reported that water and flooding are no longer issues, "but the storm left a lot of debris on the road," the agency said.

Palomares Road near the community of Niles has been closed since Monday due to a major mudslide. (PHOTO HERE.)
Residents who live along the road are being allowed to enter to access their homes, however all others are being asked to avoid the area and to use alternative routes, according to the Alameda County Public Works
Agency.

Mill Creek Road also remains closed this morning, police said.
No estimate was given this morning for when Niles Canyon would reopen.
