'Not A Racetrack': Fremont Mayor Issues PSA To Drivers
"Drive like someone's child is on that sidewalk — because they are," the mayor said online.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont's Mayor Raj Salwan has issued a public service announcement, warning reckless drivers of the consequences they could face if caught breaking traffic laws in the city.
"Fremont PD is ramping up enforcement — and we mean it," Salwan said in a statement on Friday. "STOP at stop signs. DON'T run red lights. Drive like someone's child is on that sidewalk — because they are."
The warning comes as Fremont is already on pace to surpass the number of traffic deaths in 2025. Fremont had seven traffic deaths in 2025. With just over eight months of the year left in 2026, there have been five traffic deaths in Fremont.

The latest traffic death in Fremont happened just over 12 hours after Salwan's social media post.
The driver of a Dodge Challenger was speeding southbound on Gimmer Boulevard, near Irvington Avenue, when they lost control of the car as they approached a bend in the roadway, police said.

The driver then crashed into nearby traffic barriers, according to police, adding that a passenger was killed in the wreck.
The driver, meanwhile, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
Salwan says officers will be out in Fremont, with cameras rolling, ready to catch reckless drivers. He added that drivers could face fines, points on their licenses and even arrest.
"Reckless driving will NOT be tolerated in our community," Salwan said hours earlier. "Fremont is a community, not a racetrack. Drive accordingly."
