Sketches Released of Suspect Who Attempted to Kidnap Girl in Hayward on Friday

Hayward police have released sketches of a man who they say tried to pull a 15-year-old girl into his car as she walked home from school on Friday. The girl was walking in the 24000 block of Whitman Street around 4 p.m. when she was approached by a white male who tried to pull her into his vehicle, police said. The girl was able to fight back and escape to a neighbor’s house nearby.

The suspect, who was not known to the girl, fled the area and was not located by police in a search of the area. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s with a tan complexion, short brown hair, a scruffy short beard and no mustache. He was around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and 140 to 150 pounds with a skinny build. He was wearing a gray shirt, black knee-length shorts, orange athletic shorts and sandals. He was last seen driving a white sedan, described as a newer model white four-door Honda Civic, with a light blue dealer plate on the rear.

The incident was similar to another attempted kidnapping that occurred in Hayward more than two weeks ago. In that incident, on Feb. 20, a 14-year-old girl was walking home from school in the area of Ebony Way and Joshua Street around 3 p.m. when she was approached by a man who tried to pull her into his vehicle.

The victim in that incident was also able to escape, and the suspect, who was unknown to the victim, could not be located. The suspect in that incident was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds and clean-shaven. He had dark eyes, wavy brown hair and a medium to dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a green hoodie, black knee-length shorts and black athletic socks. He was driving a white sedan.
