Fresno County Sheriff's Office: Deputies Arrest 12 Year Old Kingsburg Boy For Bringing Loaded Gun To School

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 12 year old boy from Kingsburg.

He has been booked into juvenile hall on felony charges of carrying a loaded firearm, having a gun on a school campus and being a minor in possession of a gun and ammunition.
On the afternoon of Thursday, September 16th, deputies responded to Clay Elementary School located at 12449 S. Smith Ave. in Kingsburg. Deputies met with a school administrator who had discovered a handgun in a student’s backpack. Deputies examined the gun and determined it to be a 25 caliber pistol loaded with six bullets. Staff members held the student who owned the backpack in the office so deputies could speak with him.

Deputies learned through school administrators that the boy had mentioned to other students he had a gun in his backpack and had intentions of shooting a teacher. The boy was upset with this teacher because he had punished him the day before after he was caught punching another student. One of the students informed their teacher of this boy possibly having a gun in his bag. School administrators took this tip seriously and immediately contacted the suspect and checked his backpack, which in fact did contain a gun. It has not been determined how the student obtained the gun. This remains an ongoing investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to applaud the student who told their teacher about this potential threat. We encourage everyone to speak up so an allegation can be investigated. It can prevent a tragedy and in this case it possibly did exactly that.
