Update: Panoche Fire in Fresno County now brought under 100% containment (mercedsunstar.com) — A small wildfire dubbed the Panoche Fire near Mendota in Fresno County was fully contained Friday morning after burning about 10 acres along the I-5 access ramp at West Panoche Road. Cal Fire's Fresno-Kings Unit reports the blaze is ringed by control lines, meaning it's no longer expected to spread, though some interior burning may continue while crews work toward full control.

4. 1 person dead after fiery southeast Fresno crash knocks power out, firefighters say (abc30.com) — A deadly solo-car crash in southeast Fresno knocked down a power pole Friday afternoon, killing one person, blocking Willow and Tulare avenues, and cutting electricity to at least 3,000 PG&E customers. Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in flames, and investigators are still working to learn more about the victim as crews restore power and reopen roads.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo's lion cubs have new patriotic names (yourcentralvalley.com) — Fresno families have two new reasons to look forward to their next zoo visit: the Fresno Chaffee Zoo's lion cubs have been named Jubilee and Indy, honoring their Fourth of July birthday. While the seven-week-old cubs aren't on public view yet, locals can virtually adopt them and still visit their mother Zamaya and older siblings Asali and Taraj at the zoo.
