Our newest exhibit, “Healdsburg: 100 Years Past and Present,” includes an invitation to the community to become an active participant. This exhibit provides a window into the everyday life of northern Sonoma County residents during the 1910s. The displays also highlight some of the major shifts that occurred during that time including the women’s suffrage movement, changes in fashion, dance crazes and the historic 1913 Healdsburg Water Carnival.
Many of these changes were documented in the work of talented local photographer, Mervyn D. Silberstein. As the owner of a local photography studio, Silberstein’s work chronicled the people, places and events in the Healdsburg area from 1903-1913. He left a rich legacy of this period for us to enjoy today.
In much the same way, today’s visitors are challenged to become a part of the exhibit by answering the question, “One hundred years from now, what do you want future generations to see and know about you and our community?” Guests are invited to share their photos with the Healdsburg Museum. You may either email your photos to holly@healdsburgmuseum.org or bring them in to be scanned.
