Fire Displaces 2, Kills Cat In Cloverdale

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – A garage fire Sunday at a two-story Cloverdale residence displaced two renters and killed a cat, a fire battalion chief said.

The fire was reported at 8:23 p.m. and was contained to the garage at 702 Portofino Way within 30 minutes, Cloverdale Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Rick Blackmon said. The cause has not been determined.

Smoke got into the second story of the home and displaced the two people renting the home, Blackmon said.

The male renter tried to put out the fire with a hose and rescue a pet cat, which was found dead inside the residence, Blackmon said.

Damage to the structure and its content is about $150,000, Blackmon said.

Firefighters from Healdsburg and Geyserville also responded to the blaze, he said.
