Housing Our Community Of Healdsburg: Workshop

Public is strongly encouraged to attend the Jan. 26 session.

In 2014, Healdsburg assessed the increasing challenge of maintaining a diversity of housing that is accessible to all members of our community. Several initiatives including: The 5-Year Strategic Plan, Healdsburg 2030 General Plan, Central Healdsburg Avenue Plan (CHAP), numerous discussions about the Growth Management Ordinance and the
Housing Element Update, all saw the need to provide different types of housing choices for a range of income levels, as an important issue for the continued healthy growth of our city.

Workshops were held in order to solicit feedback from community members who expressed concerns over the lack of moderately priced housing for local employees and young families, and the absence of newer housing options to meet changing life stages.

While efforts in 2014 covered a lot of ground, the results from those discussions were to develop policies that would enable housing to meet minimum state requirements.

Housing is a priority for the City’s leadership in 2015. The City of Healdsburg intends to take Healdsburg’s housing discussion beyond policy revisions, and move it to a point of defined strategies and actions, and has tagged this process as ‘Housing Our Community.’

The first work session, which will provide an overview of national and regional housing trends and specific data being gathered for Healdsburg, is scheduled for Monday, January 26th from 6PM – 8PM at City Council Chambers on Grove Street.

The public is strongly encouraged to attend as the presentation and discussion will form the foundation for future workshops and community forums.

Two additional community sessions are tentatively scheduled for ‘Housing our Community.’ The second session is scheduled for February 23rd where a moderated panel with experts and stakeholders will provide constructive ideas for Healdsburg and discuss housing solutions that are currently working in other communities.

The third session will be held on March 25th, where attendees will be invited to work in groups, and building on prior discussions, help to identify strategies and programs that are most appropriate for Healdsburg.
