Immaterial Matters

World premiere production of a new original play. A 19th century photographer is touched by the spirits of his recently deceased subjects.

By STEVE PATTERSON
Directed by TICE ALLISON
A Raven Players production.
A play of mordant humor and character exploration, Immaterial Matters mixes Americana and history with a bit of a dark streak. Set in the 1880s, it is the story of a young, orphaned man who specializes in the most intense acts families can experience—post-mortem portraiture. In one of his first jobs, an artistic young woman takes a liking to him and follows him home… after she’s died and he’s taken her portrait. These two lost souls form a complicated and intricate relationship as the photographer and his “assistant” travel from home to home capturing the last and only images of loved ones who’ve passed on.
