• Middle School Staffing Restored Following Community Pushback (spotlightschools.com) — Families at Sowers and Dwyer middle schools in Huntington Beach will keep full-time assistant principals after strong community pushback convinced the Huntington Beach City School District board to reverse a cost-cutting plan. Parents, students, and teachers argued that rising special-needs caseloads and social challenges demand robust on-campus leadership, leading trustees to restore both AP positions for the 2026–27 school year.
   

• CalOptima's street medicine program expands to four more OC cities (ocregister.com) — Huntington Beach will soon see CalOptima's street medicine vans regularly visiting local neighborhoods to treat unhoused residents where they live. Starting around mid‑2027, mobile teams will offer primary care, mental health support, substance use treatment and case management, as part of a $4 million expansion that also covers Fountain Valley, Seal Beach and Westminster.
   

• Orange County girls volleyball rankings: Mater Dei starts at No. 1 (ocregister.com) — Huntington Beach High's girls volleyball team debuts at No. 10 in the new Orange County preseason rankings, led by junior middle blocker and All‑Sunset League returnee Amaya Lesley. The list, released today, shows how Surf City's squad stacks up against powerhouses like Mater Dei, Santa Margarita and Newport Harbor heading into the 2026 season.
