A Costa Mesa Man Struck By A Potentially Drugged Driver, Dies At Scene, One Arrested: Cops
Officers remained at the scene where a suspected drugged driver struck a pedestrian. Eastbound Victoria Street is closed at Placentia.

COSTA MESA, CA — A pedestrian was killed in a fiery crash late Tuesday in Costa Mesa. The allegedly drugged driver, who struck the man and a light pole in the crash, was placed under arrest Wednesday, officials say.
Jon Weir, 65, of Garden Grove, was driving under the influence of drugs that occurred about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday near Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue, the Costa Mesa Police Department reported.
Medics took Weir to a hospital to treat injuries described as not life-threatening, police said.

As of Wednesday morning, officers remained at the scene and a Sig Alert is also in effect for the area.
Westbound Victoria Street was open, but eastbound is closed for another two to three hours, scheduled to open up at about 10:30 a.m., police said.

Costa Mesa police arrived at the crash scene to find a rollover traffic collision with the vehicle on fire. The victim lay, unresponsive, on the ground near the crash.
Arriving officers found the driver had exited his vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames, Costa Mesa police reported. A traffic control light pole was knocked over due to the collision.
Witnesses told authorities that the driver struck the man who was waiting to cross the intersection on the sidewalk, police reported.
The as-of-yet unidentified pedestrian died at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his next of kin, police say.
Police routed traffic away from the scene while major incident investigators remained at the scene.
