LCF Parent Wins Almost $3,000 at the St. George Preschool Dragon Faire
Families enjoyed juicy burgers, fun games and live music all for a good cause at St. George preschool.
When the St. George Preschool Dragon Faire ended at 2 p.m. on Sat. April 28, the money raffle was up to $9,420. 50 percent of the amount went to the preschool to help fund improvements and enrichment programs. The other 50 percent went to three lucky raffle winners. Carolyn Kim from La Cañada won the grand prize of $2,826.
Those who didn't win still had a great time eating In-N-Out burgers, snapping pictures of their little ones riding ponies, and shopping at the bazaar.
"All of the vendors are giving 20 percent of their sales to St. George Preschool," said the school's Director Cherie McSweeney. "We didn't want to have a silent auction this year, due to the economy. Every business up and down Foothill Boulevard is asked for a donation from every school, church, and organization. We decided to give them a break this year."

Each St. George Preschool family gave a $150 donation to opt out of the silent auction.
"Most families said they would have paid that much for a basket or auction item. This way, they get a tax donation," shared McSweeney.

With bright red $1 tickets, students and neighborhood children played carnival-style games to receive prizes. There was a face painting booth, homemade baked goods, and a smoothie stand.
"We sold out of our smoothies early, because it is such a warm day," shared one of the parent volunteers.
The preschool opened in 1969, and the Dragon Faire is the biggest fundraiser of the year. Holly Breckheimer was one of the three chairpersons for this year's event. McSweeney is so appreciative of Breckheimer and all the other parents who put this faire together.
"The most important thing about this school is the staff, parents, students and facility. We all work together as a team," said McSweeney. "The money raised will pay for our music and movement classes, Spring concert, Cabrillo Marine Museum, and reptile family visit."
The Fontes family enjoyed all of the festivities.
"Even though our girls are now in elementary school, we still support St. George Preschool. Our girls had a wonderful experience here," said Patrice Fontes, former teacher at the school.
