The Sound of Music

Laguna Beach High School presents the beloved musical The Sound of Music the last three weekends of March.  This
beautiful and final collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein promises to enthrall audiences of all ages with the incredible power of music to encourage creativity, dispel fear, and spread joy.

“Over the past twenty years, The Sound of Music is definitely the most requested title,” said director Mark Dressler after a recent rehearsal.  “The show’s memorable
score and historic setting make it an important piece of literature,” explained Mr. Dressler.  “This play is romantic,
comedic and exciting because it explores familiar issues of vocation, love, loyalty, and coming-of-age against the back-drop of a critical time in world history.  It’s the kind of musical we love to bring to life in our artistic community.”

Featuring classic songs like Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, and Climb Every Mountain, the play follows the challenges of Maria von Trapp, a young woman who takes a leave of absence from a convent to act as governess to the seven children of the widowed Captain von Trapp on the eve of the Nazi annexation of Austria.
