Family Seeks Aid After Mom Suffers Heart Attack In Laguna Beach Waters (patch.com) — A 49-year-old mother suffered a heart attack while swimming at Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach, where lifeguards and first responders rescued her after she was found unconscious in the water. Now in close monitoring at Mission Hospital and awaiting transfer to Scripps, her family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs, medications, and extended visits.
   

2. South Laguna public parking program passes Coastal Commission appeal (latimes.com subscription) — Laguna Beach has cleared a key hurdle to launch a one-year pilot of paid and time-limited parking in South Laguna along Coast Highway and nearby residential streets. The California Coastal Commission denied an appeal, allowing 22 pay stations and 501 marked spaces, with a five-hour limit, to move forward while the city finalizes an implementation schedule and new mobile payment system.

Whiskers the Sea Lion, Oro the Aussiedoodle and even some grownups greet El Morro pupils (latimes.com subscription) — Laguna Beach Unified students returned to class with a spirited welcome at El Morro Elementary, featuring teachers, first responders, therapy dog Oro and mascot Whiskers the Sea Lion. Superintendent Don Austin visited campuses, emphasizing student happiness, relationships and strength-based learning as the district opens the year with 2,262 students across its four schools, including a full preschool program at El Morro.
