LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Speed contributed to a crash on Laguna Canyon Road Wednesday that sparked a vehicle fire and caused a SIGAlert, officials say.

On Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., emergency officials raced to the scene of a multi-car crash at Canyon Acres Drive and Laguna Canyon Road.

Six cars had collided, two were actively on fire, according to Laguna Beach Police Lt. Jim Cota.

Four people were injured, and taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with major injuries, Cota says. Excessive speed was to blame, according to Cota.

"The driver of one involved car crossed over the center median and caused the crash," Cota says. The incident remains under investigation.
