'Investigate Pet Rescue Before You Donate:' Animal Friends Of The Valleys Says

Wildomar-based Animal Friends of the Valleys has seen its share of animal cruelty cases. Here are tips for potential donors and rescuers.

WILDOMAR, CA—Animal Friends of the Valleys officers warn those who release animals to pet rescues, and adopt from pet rescues to do your research. According to AFV Chief Monique Middleton.

Officers have rescued pets kept in "deplorable conditions," with no access to water, unsanitary conditions, and chained inside a shed with no ventilation, Middleton stated.

Middleton urges the public to investigate animal rescues before donating funds or surrendering pets.

"Legitimate (California) rescues will have a 501(c)(3) designation and be registered with the state (of California)," Middleton emphasized.

"Our officers work tirelessly …to bring these animals to safety," she said. At times, officers have discovered animals in various stages of neglect, she added. "Some of which were so badly abused and neglected that they could not be saved," Middleton said. Some conditions the dogs were received in was unimaginable, she says. While specific details on an open case were not possible, she did express that many of the dogs were rehabilitated and adopted.

She highlighted the importance of vigilance when supporting rescues. Always verify their legitimacy. “Do your research and understand the facts. These individuals have exploited animals for personal gain and have no credibility."
