Body Found Floating In Lake Elsinore, Police Say [UPDATED]

Sheriff's officials say the man was found floating face down in shallow water.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — (Updated 11 p.m.) Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man found dead in Lake Elsinore, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports. The discovery was made just after noon Friday.

Sheriff's Dep. Robyn Flores tells Patch that a man's body was found at 12:13 p.m. near Lakeshore Drive. The circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation.

"A person in the area saw what he believed to be a dead body, so he contacted law enforcement," she said. Sgt. Steve Jimenez later added in a news release that the man "advised they saw what appeared to be a person lying face down in shallow water, near Seaport Launch Area."

The sheriff's department responded to the scene and soon blocked off part of the area while they investigated the death. However, the lake did remained open to the public.

Deputies requested county fire department personnel for assistance in recovering the body, and firefighters deployed a watercraft to retrieve it from the water. The operation took just under an hour, according to reports from the scene.

Though officials are still investigating the case, the man's death does not appear to be suspicious, officials said.

"There does not appear to be foul play and cause of death will be determined after an autopsy is completed," Jimenez said.

The man's identity was not publicly released.
