Elsinore Police Shoot Man Spotted With Gun, Sheriff's Dept. Says

Sheriff's officials say the man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A sheriff's deputy shot a man in Lake Elsinore on Monday after the man was spotted with a gun, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Details surrounding the confrontation are limited, but the deputy-involved shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. outside a home in the 3500 block of Raven Drive, near Quail Drive, according to the agency.

Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Willison says officers from the Lake Elsinore sent to the home "after receiving calls of a Hispanic male adult armed with a gun."

"While officers were conducting their investigation the officers located the male adult in the immediate area," Willison said in a news release. "The subject was armed with a gun and an officer involved shooting occurred."

Sheriff's officials were at the scene for several hours following the incident.

Willison said that no deputies or members of the public were injured during the confrontation.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. His injuries were described as "life-threatening."
