Guns, 'Large Amount' Of Ammo Found In Alleged RivCo School Plot

Riverside County sheriff's officials say "the threats were deemed credible" and Jacob Ryan McBain was arrested in the case.

NORCO, CA — A "credible" threat made by a Riverside County man about "shooting people at a local college campus" was made this week, but sheriff's officials arrested the suspect before any of his alleged plan could be carried out, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said. What's more, a search of his residence ended with the seizure of multiple weapons and ammunition, officials said.

Lt. Eric Briddick said officials in the Norco area were told Monday morning about "a series of threats made on social media." The school's name was not disclosed.

"An investigation was immediately initiated regarding a suspect posting comments on his Facebook page he intended on shooting people at a local college campus," Briddick said in a news release. "The threats were deemed credible and the Norco Special Enforcement Team deputies along with detectives assigned to the Jurupa Valley Station Investigations Bureau, initiated a detailed and expansive investigation."

Police searched the suspect's home in the 5000 block of Trail Street, Briddick Said. As the warrant was being executed, authorities arrested 27-year-old Jacob Ryan McBain — who was allegedly stashing weapons in his room.

"Deputies recovered a loaded AR-15, two loaded handguns, and a large amount of ammunition from McBain’s bedroom," Briddick said.

McBain was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm, McBain said.

He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center and will appear in court at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Riverside Hall of Justice, according to online inmate records.
