HS Gridiron Summary For Week Ending Sept. 14
Here's a summary of last week's Lake Elsinore and Wildomar high school football games.
Temescal Canyon
Mike Sands's Titans had a rare Thursday night game at Norte Vista. They were dealt with their third loss of the year, this one a 27-7 loss.
Game statistics were not available at publication time.
The Titans look to turn things around this Friday at home versus La Quinta.
Cornerstone Christian
Coach Skip Chmidling's Crusaders are 0-1-1 through Sept. 13. Following a 0-0 tie with Warner on Sept. 6, Cornerstone Christian paid the cross-town private school, Faith Baptist Academy, a visit and came away with a 40-13 loss.

Highlights for the Crusaders included:
- Team rushing 4.9 yards per carry
- 2 of 3 kickoffs reached the end zone
- Sophomore Wayne Simons had twelve rushes for 71 yards; on defense, he had twelve tackles including nine solo tackles. Simons also had one fumble recovery.
- Freshman Pierre Gray had nine carries for 57 yards; one carry was for 18 yards. On defense, Gray had eleven tackles including eight solo.
Faith Baptist Academy
In that game against Cornerstone Christian last Friday, coach Josh Goddard's team raised their record to 1-1. The previous week they hosted Pacific Lutheran in a 71-32 loss.
Where they were stymied in their running game on Sept. 6, their rushing yardage was something to be admired last Friday. Faith Baptist Academy churned out 287 yards and a whopping 6.47 yards per carry average and five touchdowns.
The team shared quarterbacking duties between two players. While only nine passes were completed, two were for touchdowns.
On defense, FBA sacked the Cornerstone Christian QB three times.
Individual highlights for Faith Baptist Academy included:
- Senior QB Tim Peterson was 9 of 16 for 93 yards passing and two TDs
- Junior Micah Oh had 15 carries for 136 yards, a 9.07 average
- Freshman Norman Cook busted loose for on 40-yard gain amongst his seven carries. Cook was credited with rushing touchdowns. As is the case with many private schools, players work at various positions on both sides of the ball. Cook pulled down eight pass receptions for 78 yards and two more TDs. He also scored four points on conversions.
- On defense, Cook had ten tackles. He is certainly someone to keep an eye on these four years.
- Senior Jordan Carlson had ten tackles
- Freshman Arthur Oh had two sacks
- Nathan Patton had one interception return for 23 yards
California Lutheran
Coach Dave Peter's C-Hawks find themselves at 0-2 going into the third game of the season.
In Week One, the hosted Desert Christian Academy at their Wildomar football field. Many lessons were learned from the 45-6 loss.
Last Friday, Trona came to town. The C-Hawks lost a heartbreaking 22-18 contest against the now 3-0 Tornadoes.
No games statistics were available at publication time.
This Friday, California Lutheran tries to return to their winning ways with a visit to Desert Chapel in Palm Springs.
Lakeside
Temecula Valley hosted the Lancers and sent them packing with a decisive 40-0 victory.
Some highlights from the Lancer's game included:
- Sophomore running back Jazzdon Stewart had a hearty seven yards a carry for 63 yards
- Senior running back Mark Ramolete handled most of the rushing duties with 15 carries, also for 63 yards
- Senior Jacob Rasar combined for 68 total yards; 45 from pass receptions and 23 from rushes
- Sophomore Joseph Ramirez was the star on defense tallying 11 tackles, five solo and one sack of the Bears' quarterback
- Senior Raymond Cravin had nine tackles, also five solo
- Junior Jesus Sanchez caused one fumble
- Freshman Dayvontea Brown blocked one field goal attempt
Elsinore
After three weeks of play, coach Tony Peralta's Tigers are 1-2 and hungry for bear. That's good because Temecula Valley comes to town this Friday night.
Last Friday, things didn't taste well as Santiago came to town and dished out a 35-21 loss to the Tigers.
The previous week at Rim of the World, they had a fine showing in a 42-6 win.
All things considered, the latest CIF-Southern Section (Central Division) poll has the Tigers ranked fifth for the second straight week.
Game highlights from last week include:
- Senior quarterback Tommy Wilson was 14 of 25 for 168 yards and one TD
- Junior running back Jacob Guglielmana gained 98 yards on 14 carries; he also caught four passes for 74 yards and a touchdown
- Senior Shane Pico showed he's dangerous on kickoff returns with three for 108 yards including a special 95-yard return for a touchdown
- Senior Ryan Laverdiere was the Tiger's star defender credited with a mind-boggling 17 total tackles, ten as solo
- Junior Mohammed Alsadek and Senior Davis Peralta each had eight solo tackles
