Volunteers who participated will be provided complimentary tickets to the Remembering Terry Smith group for all registered searchers and donor businesses.
We invite all other volunteers who participated in the search to purchase tickets at the special rate of $8 at our box office to the Friday July 26 Storm game to salute the many people who brought a community together.
“We understand these volunteers and businesses did this out of the kindness of their heart without needing acknowledgement,” said Storm team President Dave Oster. “But we wanted to recognize a good deed done by many and celebrate the positive action of how this community came together.”
Also at Friday’s game Storm fans can give back themselves by taking the first step to saving a life by joining the Be the Match registry by using a simple cheek swab. During the game friends of the Jeremy and Kim McGrath family will host a donor registry drive to raise awareness about the need for marrow donors in honor of Kim McGrath’s one-year transplant anniversary.
The Storm will also recognize local donor Shelley Antunez who, through Be the Match foundation, was able to donate and save another’s life while registering last year at the Lake Elsinore Motocross track in response to Kim McGrath’s need for a transplant. Be The Match will also be at the Diamond asking people to register while at the game.
“We happen to be kicking off our Play it Forward promotion this Friday which encourages people to give back and inspire others to do the same," Oster continued. "What these volunteers did along with Shelley Antunez is a perfect example of this type of inspiration of community building and is why the Storm wanted to give back to them.”
The Storm’s Play it Forward promotion encourages others to help create a positive movement through grass roots activities and sports. The Storm will reach out to other sports teams to help grow this program in other communities in hopes of generating more positive programs.
The Storm play the Bakersfield Blaze Friday with game time at 7 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m. Fans can also enjoy the area’s largest fireworks show after the game sponsored by Loma Linda University Medical Center.
