False Hostage Incident Prompts Police Presence At Canyon Lake

Details are limited at this time as to what occurred but residents but police say there was no threat to public safety.

CANYON LAKE, CA — A bogus call of a hostage crisis prompted a large police presence in Canyon Lake on Thursday, officials confirm to Patch. It started around 11 a.m. when Canyon Lake police were called to the 22500 block of S. Canyon Lake Drive for a "possible hostage incident at a residence," sheriff's officials say.

Several units responded, and witnesses told Patch they had been blocked from entering the gated community during the incident.

By 11:45 a.m., police said they'd cleared the scene and learned that there was never a threat.
