11,000+ Briefly Left In The Dark Following Elsinore Power Outage

Officials said the incident was likely related to an issue at a substation downtown.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — More than 11,000 people were without power in the Lake Elsinore area on Tuesday afternoon after an apparent equipment issue in town, Southern California Edison and city officials reported.

The exact cause of the outage — which started around 4:05 p.m. — was not immediately clear, but fire officials confirm to Patch that power lines were reported down in the area of Pottery and Main streets. Emergency officials were sent to the scene and Pottery Street was temporarily closed between Main and Springs streets, officials said.

A total of 11,540 customers were initially affected by the outage, SCE officials told Patch. According to the City of Lake Elsinore, the cause of the outage is related to a blown box at SCE's Elsinore Substation located on Spring Street" in the downtown area.
