Man Killed In Ramona Expressway Crash

Sheriff's officials say the man was rushed to the hospital Friday, but died from his injuries.

PERRIS, CA — A bicyclist was struck and killed Friday in Perris while riding in traffic lanes just before sunrise, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports. The rider was hit about 5:40 a.m. in the area of Perris Boulevard and the Ramona Expressway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"Officers arrived on scene within minutes, along with personnel from Cal Fire, and found the subject lying in the roadway," sheriff's officials said in a news release. "Life saving measures were begun and the subject was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died."

Investigators said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was bicycling on the northbound side of the four-lane road when he began crossing traffic lanes. A motorist, who apparently did not see the bicyclist in time, hit him.
