Parents, Supporters Honor Blaze Bernstein Through Act Of Service

Food pantries and federal workers across Orange County benefitted from the work of those giving back to others in honor of Blaze Bernstein.

LAKE FOREST, CA —In 2018, parents Gideon and Jeanne Bernstein buried their son, Blaze, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. One year later, this Orange County couple remains on fire for their son's memory and inspire those around them to do good in Blaze's name.

On Monday, the Second Harvest Food Bank was full of supporters of the "Do Good For Blaze" day of service movement. Over 20,000 pounds of apples were bagged and sorted for delivery to food pantries across OC. About 150 helpers gathered to do good in a time of uncertainty for many federal employees.

The local food pantries, such as the Laguna Beach Food Pantry, the RSM Cares Bell Tower Foundation, Orange County Rescue Mission and more will benefit from the Second Harvest Apples.

Federal workers have been welcomed to area food pantries to shop and fill their shelves during a time of uncertainty during the most extended government shutdown in U.S. history.

For Jeanne and Gideon Bernstein, seeing people meet and help make the world a better place continues to be a driving force in their lives as they remember their son.

The pair spoke to the crowd present, drinking in the positive atmosphere, the smiles, handshakes and hugs as they transformed their personal day of grief into a public day of service.

They strive to stay focused, one act of kindness at a time, one day at a time and one child at a time, according to Gideon Bernstein.

"We think of (Blaze) every day, and are carrying on his legacy," he told those present at the Second Chance Harvest, adding, "it was a day to do good for the community."
