Firefighters Tackle Raging Car Fire On 405 Freeway

The car fire apparently shut down the southbound side of the State route 405 Freeway in Irvine while authorities addressed the scene.

LAKE FOREST, CA — A man was injured this week after the car he was driving in crashed on the State route 405 Freeway before catching on fire, the Orange County Fire Authority reported.

Firefighters were called to the freeway between Jamboree and Culver earlier Tuesday morning in regards to a traffic crash with fire.

Upon arriving, firefighters found a two-vehicle crash with one car engulfed in flames.

"Fortunately, the occupant of the vehicle on fire made it out," an OCFA statement read. "Both drivers were assessed by firefighter paramedics and it was determined that only the driver of the car fire had minor injuries."

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
