Fossil Fire Breaks Out In Orange County

Helicopters, bulldozers, and firefighters battled a vegetation fire in the late afternoon off the Quail Hill Loop Trail, Sunday.

IRVINE, CA —Over 16 acres burned in Irvine on Sunday, Orange County Fire Authority reported. The vegetation fire broke out in the late afternoon off the Quail Hill Loop Trail, charring a large swath of land, according to Capt. Paul Holaday.

Four water-dropping helicopters, 11 engines, and a bulldozer were all sent to the scene, Holaday said, engines arriving within minutes of the 911 call reporting the blaze near Shady Canyon.

The brushfire was fully contained a short while later, according to reports.

OCFA firefighters remained at the scene through the night to handle any hotspots that may ignite, Holaday said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, according to officials. No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened.
