LAKE FOREST, CA — What do you do when you hear meowing coming from deep inside a grate? Call the fire department, of course. Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene near Lake Forest on Saturday to handle the call of one miserable little kitten, OCFA spokesperson Captain Larry Kurtz said.
"An Irvine engine company rescued a small kitten from a grate located at Gateway and Irvine Center Drive," Kurtz said.
John Tester, a local resident spoke up about the incident, afterwards.

"My girlfriend Jessica called OCFA and the kitten is doing great," he said. "I've never seen an animal eat so much! Poor guy was starving!"

The kitten was extracted with the use of a chicken drumstick that the crew brought from the fire station, according to Kurtz, and the little guy is currently doing well.

Thanks to the local fire departments for caring for the lives of all, both people and pets, in Orange County.

This was not the only cat story for Orange County Fire Authority this month, as recently Seal Beach firefighters rescued a cat from a downstairs Seal Beach house fire, returning it to the grateful owner.
