There’s good news for pet owners. Last week the City Council agreed on a response to the recent Grand Jury report about animal shelter and control. The Council refused to affirm a long term commitment to the Orange County shelter and also agreed to “explore feasible, cost effective options”. The Council also asked the County to provide “cost and schedule estimates” for the imaginary shelter the County has been promising for the past 20 years. The second bit of good news is that construction started on the small dog park on Baffin Bay, adjacent to Baker Ranch. The park is being built as part of the Developer Agreement with the City and won’t use taxpayer money. If things go smoothly, construction will be completed by mid-November and then it will take 90 days to put the finishing touches. It’s a small park but it’s a start.
