Disneyland Power Restored After Hours-Long Outage

A power outage on Wednesday at the Happiest Place on Earth reportedly left riders stuck in Fantasyland and Toontown.

ANAHEIM, CA — Power was restored to parts of Disneyland Wednesday after an hours-long outage left some riders stuck. The outage, which was first reported at about 10:30 a.m., was caused by malfunctioning transformer, park officials said.

The outage, which ended at about 3 p.m., disrupted the heavily visited theme park's Fantasyland and Toontown, forcing some guests to wait as long as 100 minutes to hop on a ride. Park officials also briefly stopped accepting new guests, allowing only previous visitors to re-enter.

"We've determined that the issue is with a Disneyland Resort transformer and our team is currently assessing and working to restore power," a Disneyland spokesperson told Patch. Guests were escorted off "about a dozen" rides during the outage.

The outage prompted visitors to take their concerns to Twitter. Guests reported that rides such as Small World went down at about 10:30 a.m., going completely dark and silent — a rarity for the ride.

But other attractions are far more functional. Guests have only a five-minute wait to get across to Tom Sawyer's Island, and the Tiki Room is running at about a 10 minute wait, according to the Disneyland Resort App. There is no waiting at the Challenge Trail in Disney's California Adventure.

Some of the resort's rides (such as Rapid Racers) were powered by solar energy, but that technology isn't yet available in the majority of the theme park.
