Collective Brain Freeze In Moraga — Local 7-11 Melts Away the Competition

Moraga store powers through old record for Slurpees served on 7-11 Day.

Moraga's 7-Eleven was flooded with customers Monday. Why? Well, the calendar confirmed that July 11 was indeed 7-Eleven Day.

Every year 7-Eleven offers free Slurpees to customers to say thank you for their support. This year was very special for Moraga's 7-Eleven because not only did it break last year's record of 1,800 Slurpees, it broke the record of all the 7-Elevens in the Bay Area — serving 3,100 Slurpees.

“We were able to break the record because this year we brought in 12 cases of cups, which was more than some of the other 7-Elevens,” owner Sammir "Sammi" Saleh said.

“The parking lot was decorated with a big rainbow of colorful balloons and was really busy. The line went from the Slurpee machine to the front door of the store,” said local and loyal customer Alecia Larson.

“I've never seen anything like it,” chimed in her son.

It's been a couple days since the big day and Lamorinda residents are still coming in to to chat with Saleh and his friendly staff about it.

Longtime local and veteran Patch reader David Berkman told Saleh that he had talked with 7-Eleven headquarters about the success and that they “wanted to upgrade the Moraga store.”

“It's a very special place for Moraga, what other stores are open (after hours) around here except 7-Eleven and Safeway?” Berkman asked.
