Lamorinda Residents Warned of Burglaries

There were three burglaries in Lafayette this week and four in Orinda last week.

LAMORINDA, CA — Police are warning residents of Lamorinda to be on guard following a rash of recent residential burglaries.

Moraga police Chief Jon King is advising residents to keep their doors and windows locked even while at home, install alarm systems or security cameras and report suspicious activity.

This advice comes in the wake of three burglaries in Lafayette Tuesday night that occurred when the residents were at home and four in Orinda last week, according to King.

"It looks like the suspects may have been cruising neighborhoods, trying doors and looking for a target," King said in a statement. "These suspects could easily migrate to Moraga, as happened in 2015 when we suffered over 40 thefts from unlocked vehicles."

King is also reminding residents to keep their cars locked and keep valuables in vehicles hidden from sight, even when parked in driveways. "This is a very scary scenario - burglars inside your home while you are asleep," King said. "Although the Lamorinda area is very safe, we live in a day and age in which we have to keep doors and windows closed and locked."
