“I want to help start mothers off in an environment that is supportive and relaxed. Really just help them have a positive experience and start motherhood off on the right foot.”
Laura Warren is passionate about helping women through pregnancy and delivery. As a Certified Nurse Midwife at Kaiser Permanente’s Walnut Creek Medical Center, she strives to make the birthing process as positive as can be.
That may be just one of the reasons why she was voted “2013 Best Certified Nurse Midwife” by the Lamorinda Moms.

Lamorinda Moms is a non-profit social and support group for moms with children age five and younger within the greater Lamorinda area. For their 2013 survey, 772 members voted on a variety of parent-focused categories, like best playground, best dentist and best toy store. This was the first year the “Best Certified Nurse Midwife” category was included.
“Laura is exactly what you want in a midwife,” said Lorraine Rose-Lerman, chief midwife for Kaiser Permanente’s Diablo Area. “She is caring, compassionate, well trained, intelligent, and an amazing patient advocate. She believes in the wisdom and power of the birth process, and is able to judiciously use interventions when necessary to insure the best outcome for mother and child.”

Warren has been with Kaiser Permanente for 11 years. “I want women to feel supported during their pregnancy, labor and delivery,” she says. “It is important for women to feel empowered and listened to during the process so that they can start parenthood off on solid footing. I want a healthy mom, health baby and healthy process and for mom’s to feel respected. And I love being there for them and being part of that process.”
A parent of two herself, Warren is one of 26 nurse/midwives in Kaiser Permanente’s Diablo Area.
“As a physician, midwife services are tremendously important to our labor and delivery team,” said Dr. Nina Y. Lee, chief of women’s health for Kaiser Permanente’s Walnut Creek Medical Center. “They can provide additional support to patients and are really dedicated to the labor and delivery experience. At our Walnut Creek Medical Center, we have almost 1,000 patients each year that transfer in for delivery care and a good portion of them are coming specifically for our midwife services.”
“Our training includes looking at the family as a whole, listening to what individual women want for their birth experience and being ready to deal with low-interventions as well as high-tech births depending on the circumstances,” Rose-Lerman adds. “It is a privilege to be allowed to participate in such an intimate and joyous occasion. And Laura is an exceptional example of what our patients can experience when having a nurse midwife. She is a skilled communicator, able to listen and hear what a woman and her family are asking for, and finding the best way to provide it.”
