Marin City Man Who Killed Mother Sent to Napa State Hospital

The prosecutor did not challenge a judge's ruling that Carlos Aldana, 24, was insane at the time of the murder.

A Marin City man who was found to be insane when he killed his mother in 2013 was committed Thursday to Napa State Hospital.

Carlos Aldana, 24, pleaded guilty to killing 44-year-old Rosa Aldana in her Marin City home on Aug. 23, 2013, but Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet ruled he was insane at the time.

Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana said Aldano will be in the hospital for 15 years to life unless he is restored to sanity and released.

After the stabbing, the California Highway Patrol was informed of a man covered in blood boarding a Golden Gate Transit bus at Donahue Street

in Marin City, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. U.S. Park Police found the bus in San Francisco and they shot
Aldana when he threatened them with a knife, sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Scardina said. Aldana was treated at San Francisco General Hospital and also spent time in a Santa Clara Hospital mental health facility after his sanity was questioned.

He was charged with murder, animal cruelty and assaulting a peace officer. The two latter charges were dismissed after his guilty plea.

The prosecution did not challenge the judge’s ruling that Aldana was insane at the time of the murder.
